Tour description:
Langjökull is the second largest glacier in Iceland. It’s famous for spectacular landscape, ice caving, 4x4 driving and dog-sledding.
This is a very unique photography adventure. Standing on a 1 km thick ice in a middle of all white world is an absolutely astounding experience. The scenery is like nothing you have ever witnessed before. You’ll explore the glacier from several standpoints. The melting ice forming the most spectacular waterfall in Iceland, Gullfoss. Water spurting 40meters up in the air by Geysir. The hot springs by Hveravellir and a glacier lagoon with floating icebergs. This tour is the kind local Icelanders do for winter sport. It’s rarely available for outsiders except in a form of day tours for regular tourists.
Highlights of the experience:
-
A glacier safari on modified 4x4’s.
-
Hot springs and Geysers.
-
Winter scenery of the highlands.
-
Snowmobile or dog-sledding tour!
-
Good chance of northern lights.
Included: One hour dog-sledding or snowmobile tour. It will make for an interesting photo opportunity.

Itinerary:
Day 1 - Friday. Geysir, majestic waterfall and hot springs.
We head for Þingvellir national park in the morning. We’ll be in time to photograph the sunrise on this historical place. It’s the only place in the world where you can stand on the American tectonic plate and photograph the European plate on the other side. Then we continue to Geysir and Gullfoss, which is part of the most popular day tour in Iceland. The Golden circle. Head for the highland in the late afternoon light. Spend the night in Hveravellir cabin. Expect spectacular views and magnificent light!
- First night in Hveravellir cabin.
Day 2 - Saturday. Snowmobile tour or dog sledding.
After breakfast we will test the 4x4s in snow. Then we’ll take on the dogs and the sled or a snowmobile tour (Group and wheather decision). We’ll explore the mountain region on the east side of Langjökull. A spectacular but inaccessible area and not much photographed. You’ll surely get very unique images of Iceland. We arrive by Hveravellir, probably after dark during these short winter days. After dinner we jump into a comfortable hot spring to relax. On clear days you can shoot the northern lights dancing above in the evening.
- Second night in Hveravellir cabin.
Day 3 - Sunday. Across Langjökull glacier.
Now the highlight of the tour begins. You are on a truly unique tour across this huge glacier. It’s not an easy route even for our big 4x4’s. Expect some troubles on the way but to the locals a glacier tour without troubles is not worth going! This is so much fun that even the most serious people burst out in hysterical laughter. We document the adventure, the excitement and the thrills.
- Drop off at your hotel - End of tour.
Tour is subject to change without prior notice. There may be slight variation in same tour on different dates.

Details:
